Afro Samurai: 
I ended up checking this series out because I am a long time lover of RZA from Wu-Tang who happened to do the full sound track to this anime. It's about a number one and number two head band and the struggle between the two of them. Afro Samurai watches his father lose his headband, along with his head, at an early age. He swears he will have his vengance and this is his story. The animation is stunning. Gory at times but that's a plus in my anime book. One of my instant favorite animes.
